New Delhi, November 09— The school education department of the Delhi government has decided to rope in NEET and JEE qualifiers from its schools to guide and mentor other students. This year, hundreds of students from Delhi government schools have qualified National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

“Some students of government schools may not be aware about the JEE, NEET and other competitive examinations. They may also not know the method of preparation, fee structure, institutions and availability of government facilities for the finance assistance,” additional director of education, Saroj Sain, was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying in a circular to schools. “Therefore, it is…the prime duty of each outstanding alumni student of our schools to guide their juniors on how to crack these competitive examinations,” the education officer reportedly said.

The results of JEE and NEET examinations were announced last month. More than 500 students from Delhi government schools cleared NEET and over 400 cracked JEE.

Buoyed with the extraordinary success of students from Delhi government schools in JEE and NEET, Chief Minister Kejriwal had addressed the Delhi residents through video on October 20 and congratulated the students and their parents. He specifically mentioned some students who got high marks and also three schools from where a good number of students have cracked NEET-2020.

“Many students from Delhi government schools have qualified NEET-2020 and JEE-2020 with flying colours. Delhi’s education revolution is leading from the front,” said Kejriwal.

“569 students from Delhi government schools have qualified NEET-2020, of them 379, that is 67%, are girls. From SKV Molar Band, 29 out of 118 science students have cracked NEET, 24 out of 137 science students from SKV Yamuna Vihar and 23 out 81 science students from SKV Noor Nagar. 48 out of 569 are those who got over 500 marks out of total 720 marks,” said CM Kejriwal.

In his video speech, Kejriwal had also promised that none of those students who have cleared Class XII will have to drop due to their financial problem.

“No student needs to worry about money. Don’t worry if your parents don’t have money. We have arranged funds for your good education. Those who have passed class 12, whether from private or govt schools, if your parents don’t have money to continue your education further, but you want to study, and have got admission in college, then Delhi govt has arranged lots of scholarships for you. Any student from rich or poor family can get loan of up to Rs 10 lakh from the Delhi government without mortgaging anything and can get good education,” he said.

Kejriwal and his deputy and Education Minister Manish Sisodia also met some of those students and congratulated them.

“CM @ArvindKejriwal interacted with some of NEET & JEE qualifying students from Delhi Govt Schools. Maximum of them have done this without any formal coaching. They are going to be role models for govt school students not only in Delhi but across the country,” Sisodia tweeted after the meeting on October 24.
