Jamia Millia Turns 100, Announces New Departments to Teach Foreign Languages, Hospital Management

New Delhi, October 28— India’s prestigious Jamia Millia Islamia is turning 100 tomorrow. On the eve of its 100th Foundation Day, the central university that holds 10th position in the central government’s national ranking of educational institutions (NIRF) has announced formation of four new departments.

The new departments are: Department of Foreign Languages, Department of Hospital Management and Hospice Studies, Department of Environmental Sciences and Department of Design and Innovation.

“The first three afore-mentioned departments will become operational from the academic year 2020-21 and the sanctioned teaching positions against these departments will be advertised by the Recruitment and Promotion Section as per the UGC prescribed qualifications and norms for further necessary action,” the university said in a notification dated 27th October.

The fourth department will become operational following approval of the Concept Document by the Competent Authority, it added.

Jamia is holding its Centenary Foundation Day celebrations at its MA Ansari Auditorium on October 29. Hamid Ahmed, CEO, Hamdard Laboratories and Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard will be the Chief Guest. Jamia Millia’s Chancellor Dr Najma Heptulla and Vice Chancellor Prof Najma Akhtar will also address the gathering.

Currently, Jamia has over 21,000 students enrolled in 270 courses offered at 43 departments and 27 academic centres. Every year, around 300 students get PhD/MPhil degrees from here.
