Kasaragod, Kerala— In communally-surcharged atmosphere, the news about a Muslim couple holding the wedding of their adopted Hindu girl as per Hindu traditions in a temple brings fresh breather and strengthens communal harmony.
The bride Rajeshwari, now 22, was just seven years old when her father Saravanan passed away. Her mother also died soon. Saravanan was a coolie worker and he worked regularly at his neighbor Abdullah’s residence and farmland at Kunnariyam in Kasaragod. Abdullah and his wife Khadija adopted Rajeshwari and raised her along with their three sons.
Some time back, Rajeshwari got marriage proposal from Vishnu. Abdullah and his family visited Vishnu’s house and met his parents Balachandran and Jayanthi. Both the families accepted the marriage proposal. The groom’s family insisted that the wedding take place at a temple. Abdullah and his family agreed.
This Sunday, Rajeshwari tied knot with Vishnu at Manyottu temple in Kanhangad. Abdullah’s relatives, including his 84-year-old mother Safiyumma, arrived at the temple to attend the wedding and bless the young couple.
